Visite guidée du Fort du Portalet
Discover the fascinating history of the Fort du Portalet in the Vallée d'Aspe, in a magnificent natural setting. Built in 1842 on the orders of Louis-Philippe I to guard the border and protect the Col du Somport road, this impressive fort clings to the cliffs overlooking the Gave d'Aspe, opposite the spectacular Chemin de la Mâture. A place steeped in history, it was home to Vichy leaders Léon Blum, Édouard Daladier, Paul Reynaud, Georges Mandel, Maurice Gamelin and, after the war, Philippe Pétain. Classified as a historic monument, it is a major witness to French military and political history.
