Village des Sciences - Conférence « Mondes virtuels, un voyage de l'informatique aux autres sciences »
By Marie-Paule CANI.
Visual representations are essential in science because they facilitate
intuition and enable the communication of ideas.
While 2D sketches have evolved into 3D representations—which are richer and sometimes animated— the latter do not allow scientists to interact with their models or to change hypotheses on the fly to test their effects.
In this presentation, we will explore the creation of interactive virtual worlds for illustrating scientific phenomena and conducting experiments.
We will show that a combination of expressive creation interfaces and intelligent models—based either on prior knowledge or on learning mechanisms—can help achieve this goal.
These ideas will be illustrated by a variety of examples...
