Coastal cliffs cover more than half of the world’s coastlines.

The rock massifs they border provide a refuge for coastal infrastructure, as their elevation makes them less immediately vulnerable to rising sea levels.

But what do we currently know about cliff erosion?

How will they erode when sea levels are higher than they are today?

Thomas Dewez, a researcher at BRGM* in Orléans; César Dyson, a Ph.D. candidate jointly affiliated with BRGM* and the University of Toulouse; and Maëlle Journade, a young geologist with a degreefrom the University of Bordeaux will present an overview of the research conducted over the past twenty years to understand the evolution of cliffs around the world, followed by a closer look at the Basque coastline, the role of its geological structure and wave action in the observed erosion.
