The "flysch" cliffs of the Basque coast show in several places the traces of a gigantic catastrophe that shook marine and terrestrial ecosystems 66 million years ago. On the continents, the total disappearance of non-avian dinosaurs put an end to a reign that had lasted 160 million years.
At the end of the 1970s, at a time when the causes of this mass extinction remained totally unknown, a young American geologist and his father, a Nobel Prize winner in quantum physics, sparked an uproar by proposing the unthinkable: it was the fall of a meteorite that killed the dinosaurs!
What follows is a fabulous investigation, forcing scientific disciplines that were previously unaware of each other to work together to find the truth...
