Monsieur Jourdain has big dreams: he wants to become a “gentleman.” When a simple bourgeois struggles to gain entry into high society and imitate the nobility, pretense runs rampant, intrigues arise, tutors come and go, and misunderstandings pile up; Turks show up uninvited, marriages are arranged, and there are arguments over vowels and consonants amid a whirl of powdered wigs and flamboyant costumes. A zany and earthy play featuring one of MOLI%C8RE’s most iconic characters in the classical repertoire, all brought to life by a production rich in slightly offbeat music and dance.
