Concert de Tribute to Steps

Steps Ahead is one of the leading jazz fusion bands of the 1980s. Founded

around vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, the band emerged from jam sessions at the club

Seventh Avenue South in New York, run by the Brecker brothers. Originally called Steps,

it later adopted the name Steps Ahead and became a leading force in modern electric jazz

.

Steps Ahead succeeded in reviving jazz fusion after the golden age of Weather Report and

Return to Forever. Their music combines instrumental virtuosity, funk and rock grooves,

sophisticated harmonies, and innovative electronic sounds, notably Mainieri’s

“Synthivibe.”

Five talented musicians have decided to pay tribute to this iconic band of the

1980s, notably Bruno Rousset, who plays on the same model of vibraphone as

the leader of Steps Ahead!
