Chapelle de la Madeleine

The Chapel of the Madeleine and its esplanade constitute one of the most emblematic sites of Bidart on the Basque Coast. Perhaps the oldest in the town, it was destroyed in 1817 by a hurricane and rebuilt in 1820. Its exceptional site, above the ocean, and the saint to whom it is dedicated, Madeleine, made it a milestone on the pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela.
