📍 Lescar
Jardin médiéval de la Cité médiévale de Lescar
The medieval town of Lescar is located 6 km west of Pau, on an elevated site.
The first traces of human presence in Lescar date back to 2005 BC. At the beginning of our era, the Romans built a town to which they gave the name of the invaded tribe: Beneharnum. The Gallo-Roman city became the first capital of Béarn, then a bishopric in the 6th century. Around the year 1000, it took the name of Lescar. Today, you can stroll around this medieval heritage, particularly in the small medieval garden. This is a garden in the monastic tradition, composed of squares, symbols of perfection. In the center is a simulated well or basin, because water is purifying. Entrance is through two arches, symbolizing a protected area.
