La fosse d'Anglas

On the outskirts of downtown Arudy, in the Ossau Valley, heading toward Carrefour Market, what are the quarries of André Courrèges Anglas, founder of the Marble and Quarries Museum. It was from his home and that of his brother, Albert, that the approximately 80 semi-trailers of moraine rock used in Bizanos for the whitewater stadium were extracted.

His daughter Sylvie shows you, outside, slabs of marble from five local quarries, including her own, and explains the origins and history of the local marble, particularly its extraction by her father André. The tour ends overlooking the quarry pit. A lounge area with comfortable benches and tables allows visitors to relax with a drink. The beverages offered are organic, non-alcoholic, and locally sourced. For horse lovers, meet Nestor and Otis on site.
