VAE N°22 - Oloron, la route des crêtes
From the town centre of Oloron Sainte-Marie to the Bager forest, this easy route follows the right bank of the Gave d'Aspe towards the thermal baths of Saint-Christau, then returns via a panoramic hill and its aptly named Route des Crêtes. A loop accessible to regular or occasional cyclists.
After visiting the centre of Oloron, its imposing cathedral and its daring bridge over the Gave d'Aspe, this itinerary immediately opts for the side roads and wanders along the orographic right bank of the Gave d'Aspe. The route starts gradually via the hamlet of Sœix and the bottom of the village of Eysus, towards the old thermal baths of Saint-Christau. A secret site, with a remarkable wooded park, where a small chapel welcomes pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Then the route makes a foray into the Bager wood, ideal for discovering on an electrically assisted bicycle. Once out of the soothing shade, you will return to Oloron via the Route des Crêtes, enjoying beautiful views over the countryside, undulating effortlessly from one height to the next as your assisted bike supports you.
