N°93 - Entre gave et coteaux
The name Saucède appears to originate from the willow trees ("saules" in French) that grow along the banks of the Gave. In the past, basket weavers would come to gather these willows to make baskets.
The name Saucède appears to originate from the willow trees ("saules" in French) that grow along the banks of the Gave. In the past, basket weavers would come to gather these willows to make baskets. There was also a ferry that operated between the village and Aren, located on the opposite bank. Saucède served as a crossing point for pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostela route. During that time, pilgrims coming from Lucq de Béarn and heading towards the Saint-Blaise Hospital would cross Saucède and take the ferry. Along this route, you will be amazed by numerous views of the Pyrenees mountain chain.
