La Madeleine / Maidalena
At an altitude of almost 800 m, the summit of the Madeleine offers a 360° view of the Saison valley and the Pyrenees. The itinerary climbs a first summit : Erretzü, before descending to the pass of Sustary, known for the hunting of the pigeon. Do not miss the chapel at the top.
A demanding hike, but the immense 360° panorama at the top will make you forget the almost 1,000 m of difference in altitude. There is a breathtaking view over the Saison valley and the Pyrenees, from the ocean to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre. The whole itinerary offers a succession of superb landscapes. After crossing vast ferns, we climb the first summit, Erretzü with its long ridge, before descending to the Sustary pass, located between Tardets and Barcus. The numerous shooting stations are occupied in October for the hunting of the pigeon. Going back up to the Madeleine, you pass on a plateau in the middle of the herds. At the top, do not miss the chapel with its votive altar and its galleries typical of Souletine churches.
