Baigura

From the Baigura leisure park, this sporty loop leads directly to one of the Basque Country's most emblematic peaks, with its 360° panoramic views. From forests to high-altitude meadows, the return loop via the Kurutze ridge and the discovery trail leaves nothing to be desired

The Baigura is one of the Basque country's most emblematic peaks, not least for its viewpoint, which on sunny days can give you a stiff neck. The panorama is renowned, with few summits missing, and even the peaks of the Hautes-Pyrénées come into the picture on a clear day. The Baigura is also an exemplary mountain in terms of its ability to combine traditional pastoral activities with outdoor leisure activities. Everyone has a role to play in maintaining these exceptional landscapes and the economy of the valleys. The Baigura also offers a concentration of ecosystems, which this hike will delight visitors with. From gorse and fern moors to windy, rocky ridges, undergrowth and peat bogs, the discoveries are endless and the horizon constantly renewed. A benchmark sporting loop.

How to get there

From Hasparren, follow signs for Saint-Palais and Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (D22). At Bonloc, leave the Saint-Palais road on your left and continue straight on towards Mendionde then Hélette (D22) for almost 8 km. At the traffic circle just before Hélette, turn right towards the Baigura leisure center (D119). Park 2.5 km further on, in a parking lot on the left of the road opposite the Baigura leisure park.
